Want a ShapeShifter for Christmas?

~ A Short Shapeshifter Erotic Romance for Christmas ~

Consumed by curiosity, Kaily gives herself to a mystery man for Christmas.

Will Dylan be able to resist her waiting naked, but gift-wrapped beneath his tree?

To win the woman he desires above all else, Dylan turns the Twelve Days of Christmas into the twelve passions, all in one night.

Chapter One:

Santa Baby, Waitin' Just for You

BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5684456156431313506

Rarely reckless, Kaily flung off the negligee she'd first thought to wear. It landed in a red ephemeral heap beside the tastefully trimmed Christmas tree.

So what if she'd just broken into his house...well, she hadn't exactly broken in...more like she spied on him until she found out where he hid the extra key...lodged in a crack of the frame above the door of the Victorian mansion he'd resurrected from certain crumbling death, and now obviously treasured.

There was only one thing Kaily could see amiss in the traditional holiday atmosphere he'd created with the help of the town's local historical club--a garish red ribbon. The long sash had a simple bow attached to one end, and practically shone despite the low lighting.

Kaily stared at the unexpected invitation.

Certainly, the river of red ribbon didn't belong on the floor as a decoration, and she couldn't see anywhere else it belonged...except wrapped around her.

Since she was giving herself to him as a gift for Christmas...well, why not?

Wildly inspired, Kaily plucked up what looked to be about three yards of ribbon. After strategically emphasizing her full breasts, she arranged it around her naked body. Naked that is, except for her gold ankle bracelet, her 'I want to seduce you earrings'...and a whimsical pair of faux-fur trimmed santa boots.

Heck, Kaily reasoned, if he was gay he might just chuckle a ho-ho-ho, and turn it all into big ole joke...and she'd turn her bare tail, and escape as quick as possible. If he wasn't gay, but didn't want to take what she was offering, Kaily hoped he would have a holly jolly laugh at her expense as he politely showed her to the door.

It was all too true, her curiosity raged out of control--even causing her sleepless nights. The object of her desire had sauntered into Kaily's small town last December. He'd paid cash on the spot for the dilapidated but proud old Victorian mansion, according to Becky Starks the one realtor.

With a vengeance, and despite the winter weather, Sexy Strange Man--as she'd thought of him then--had set about restoring the mansion. He'd also made certain to gain the good will of everyone in town...well, almost everyone.

Nessie Jones, the town's librarian, didn't like Dylan. Of course, Nessie didn't like anyone anyway, for whatever reason she could find. The love of her life was books and a mystery man she claimed to be married to--that no one ever saw.

Behind Dylan's back, Nessie always curled her lip and wrinkled her nose, as if his deodorant had failed in its job...which might be case, since he always smelled smoky and impossibly virile to Kaily.

Even though she did try to avoid him, because of her obsession with knowing more about him--why make herself look like a prize-trussed fool in front of everyone by groping him with questions--still, they were always running into each other, and Kaily always became turned-on, and positively inebriated by his scent.

Okay yes, Kaily admitted, now she did look good and trussed up, the way the length of red ribbon wound around her body. At least, by what she could see. There was a slice of her reflection in the tall narrow mirror near the fireplace mantle.

With the bow dangling from one hand, Kaily wondered if she should position it over her well-furred pussy--not completely covered by the ribbon. Or maybe, the large showy bow should nestle between the swells of her breasts...or be placed like a centerpiece above her ample-enough cleavage.

''Ooooh...Santa baby, waitin' just for you," she crooned like the song, then pursed her lips in an attempt to look sexy.

~~~~~~
Blurb:
Kaily has been consumed by curiosity ever since Dylan suddenly appears in her small town. Surreptitiously, she watches the mystery man restore a rundown Victorian mansion, all while his charm and sincerity gain him the good will of most everyone. This is especially true when he volunteers to become the annual Santa Claus for the children at the town's park.
The problem for Kaily: No one really knows anything about Dylan's past or where he came from. With her attraction to him growing day by day, she becomes a driven woman. On a desperate whim, she gives herself to him as a Christmas present. Will Dylan be able to resist her waiting naked, but gift-wrapped beneath his tree?
Dream big, little newbie
Most of the Romance Writers Who Behave Badly are super veteran. And talented. And just generally awesome. But they also let me be part of their group and post here from time to time, and I'm no voice of authority, just another beginner trying to make this writing thing happen. I figure some folks who visit here are in a similar place. Welcome.
Lately in my journey, two very marketing-savvy folks have advised me to dream big. I should develop writing goals, see, like make the NYT bestseller list or be in book stores or win awards. These are worthy dreams in terms of making a career as a writer. But honestly, I'm more interested in making a life as a writer, if that even makes sense. So here are my big dreams:
I dream that one day I'll write a book that a complete stranger will read, and it will make her cry.
Him too.
I dream that one day I'll wrap up in shiny paper a book that has my name on the cover. I'll give it to my mother and tell her thank-you for all those yard-sale novels she bought me for a dime each when I was a kid. Hundreds of them, stored in the garage because Dad wasn't into that stuff.
I dream that some day I'll chat with my daughter over tea and mention how when she was in grade school she said she wanted to be just like me and write stories. I'll remind her that I'm always proud of her, but that nothing has ever made me prouder of myself than her comment that day.
I dream that some brand-new writer will come to me and ask for advice, and I'll cheer her on and tell her that she has talent and watch her flourish in her writing adventure, and I'll pay forward all the kindness I've received from other writers over the years. And the cycle won't stop.
I dream that some day a teenager will write breathless not-half-bad fanfiction based on my worlds and characters.
And that other fans will get it. And run with it.
I dream that some day a student will write a paper based on one of my books and not curse me throughout.
Okay, some cursing allowed.
Because achieving even just one of those dreams? Would totally be worth it.
Release day: Epic fantasy quest erotica anthology
What Happens at the Tavern Stays at the Tavern exists. A book! A real book! And I'm in it!
Okay, I'm a little part of it and it is available only as an ebook, but still! Multiple end punctuation warranted here!! (Whoa, that was a little much. The editrix in me just threw up a little.) So, yes, this is super exciting for me.
And it's a good anthology besides. I've read all the other stories, and nothing in a long time has made me so desperately want to stay up till four in the morning eating snack cakes and playing AD&D. So don yer +3 pauldrons of doom and smite something! ... Or just read the epic fantasy quest sex.
Guest Author - Lani Rhea
We have a special guest who slipped into RWBB. Give Lani Rhea a warm spanking welcome. Lani is a hot romance writer who’s a lover of coffee, married to her high school sweetheart, lives in the heart of Oklahoma.
Sounds like your life is a regular romance story. So tell us what you enjoy writing.
Lanie:  Paranormal, erotic romance, suspense, urban fantasy, thrillers (I'm a mashable author. I like to mash several genres together.)
What's the kinkiest, sexiest thing you've ever done?
Lanie: Riding my husband while he was driving. I guess we should have practiced safe sex, huh? lol
I guess I should ask what he was driving… but I won’t. Let’s leave it to our imagination.  You are such a bad girl. Speaking of bad...how bad do you get with your writing, are we talking just suggestion or down right bondage?
I'm in a vanilla relationship, though we do every blue moon drag out the blindfold and he restrains my wrists with his hands.
Oh… we love blindfolds, silk scarves, and handcuffs here at RWBB. I bet you don’t just wait for a blue moon though. Heh, heh.
Back to your work, what's the best thing you've ever written--the best line?
Under Bonded Contract is by far the best story I have available and was co-written with my bff. You can go to Amazon here and purchase it today.
As for a story I had written on my own, Louisiana Moon, the first in the Rising Currents' series with Lyrical Press. Louisiana Moon is due for release Nov. 5th!
I tend to write erotic romance into almost every story I write.
If you could have any movie star take on a role as one of your heroes, who would it be?
Hmm, for Louisiana Moon, I met a male model while at RomCon who would suit Ryant Starga. So, if the book ever turns into a movie, I already know who to contact. But you're asking for a famous movie star, right? I would have to go with Joe Maganiello, though he's a bit taller than my hero Ryant Starga in Louisiana Moon.
Oh, now he’s HAWT!
Size counts… on average how loooooonnnnnggg do you like your (um, how do we put it delicately) manuscripts to be ;> ( in words silly, not inches) and how steamy?
LOL This is a very HARD question to answer. Heh, heh.  Each story is different. I can say I like my chapters on average 2K long. Hmm, if put into inches, how long would two thousand words be?
The steamier the better IMHO. Then again, it depends on the story and the characters.
What are the hardest scenes to write for you?
If the characters didn't already know each other, trying to get them to bond. That's the hardest part of writing for me. Now if they knew each other previously, it's a snap to write the scenes.
How close in real life have you gotten to one of your fantasies?
Just about everything I write. *weg* So, to find out what fantasies I may have…go buy my stories!
Girl, you are such a tease! What would you want other writers and your readers to know about you?
At first I'm shy, but once I get to know you I blossom.
And finally… anything you would like to share with us, an excerpt, a tidbit, or anything else about yourself?
I will give away two signed Under Bonded Contract bookmarks. Leave me you questions and comments. No matter what you ask or say, I'll respond with honesty. Please leave me your email address. In a couple of days I'll select the winners and email you for your address.
Thank you so much Lani for joining us today. Good luck with Louisiana Moon.  With Jimmy Thomas on the cover, nobody will be able to resist.  Yum!  Can you leave us with a sample?
EXCERPT
Flipping the overhead light switch pulled the moth to flame, drawing him near. Her body stiffened. Relaxing would not be an option tonight.
She skimmed for an image in the window. Taking precaution, she gripped the firearm on the counter. A whisper of wind blew his unique scent to her. The devil himself, her former lover, Ryant Starga, revealed in the windowpane. He leaned against the doorframe between the kitchen and dining room. Even with the glass preventing a clear picture, his stance showed confidence and a bothersome lack of concern.
She refused to turn around, but glanced over his manifestation in the glass. Silent, she waited for him to make the first move. He gave nothing except a blank stare.
Looking at him still sent pleasurable quakes of delight through her core, yet she wanted to stake him for her parents. She took the opening strike. “You used to be good at sneaking up on me. Getting rusty are ya?”
“I should ask the same. The boots were a dead giveaway.” His Italian accent flowed through the room, sending enjoyable chills up her spine. His simple words produced were beautiful.
She rolled her eyes and shook her head. Dammit, she loved those boots. She should have known when she bought them she’d given up stealth for style. Now she had to reconsider her fashion sense and treat herself to some new flats.
He wavered in the reflection. Arms crossed his chest, stretching his sleeves over bulging biceps. With him at her back, several things could happen. His arms could envelope her like they used to, and she would fondle his muscled frame. Or like many occasions, he’d spread her wide, bent over a counter or table. Her stomach clenched as she remembered his hands on her sensitive skin.
The scent of warm bread and steamed vegetables fluttered to her nose. The aroma bloomed and lingered in the room’s empty space. She glanced into the next room, to the meal laid out like a Thanksgiving feast for her vegan preference. Did he care? She couldn’t decipher.
Command radiated in his sleek stance. Ryant moved his hips, shifting his strong legs, switching the balance of weight between his ankles. Her legs had once wrapped his lean waist and burrowed heels in his hard, round ass. She cursed her body for wanting him again. How sad that some things never changed.
“Have dinner with me.” His voice flowed over her like a rich Tuscan wine, smooth and full-bodied.
What the hell did he think she’d do? Fuck him? First a vampire came to her office and now her home. Too tired to play his games, she sighed. She wished Ryant and his kind would disappear.
“Come here.” Once upon a time he’d commanded her with his beautiful voice. Not anymore.
She turned on her heels to face her nemesis and glared. Fifty years had passed since their last encounter in Los Angeles. Some memories weren’t erasable--the worst lingered. Kris refused to let his tawny, starburst eyes capture her soul again.
He snapped his fingers.
Candles flickered to life. The dining room warmed with a soft glow. Pale yellow waves rippled across the room, ending beyond the silver tips of his black alligator boots. The shine caught her eyes.
She clanked the glass on the counter. “What do you want? It’s been decades.” She grabbed the gun, then folded her forearms under the swell of her breasts to conceal the weapon beneath her left bicep. One hip balanced against the counter, she waited for his response.
He smiled in reply.
Her gaze narrowed when she traced his body from his boots to his face, absorbing the visual glory. He presented himself as the type of man--vamp, whatever--to show off his powers and wealth. The show wouldn’t work this time around.
A couple of buttons were undone, leaving his shirt open for her viewing pleasure. Staring at his smooth, golden chest, she swallowed hard. Her body ached to touch his. She forced back the desire despite the heat pooling between her thighs. Hells bells. Why couldn’t the longing for him stay in the past?
He’d made himself comfortable. He shouldn’t have. Kris sniffed. A citrus scent mixed with the aroma of food, and her stomach grumbled. Ryant had passed his time in her home drinking himself into intoxication. This reunion didn’t bode well with the combination of alcohol and angry werewolf.
“What do you want, Ryant?”
“Ooh, you say my name with such ferocity. It rolls right off the tip of your tongue.”
Her chin thrust out. “Oh, bite me.”
“Been there, done that. I could again if you’d like?” He licked his full lips, as his stare lingered her throat. His hungry gaze slid to her midsection. Self-conscious and aware of the other things on his mind, she shuddered.
Bite me. The wrong thing to say to a blood and sex-starved vampire. “At the risk of sounding like a broken record, what do you want?”
Today is my 21st Wedding Anniversary.  The secret to our marriage is simple... always take time for fun.  My dearest hubby is a pilot and gone often so I've learned to tease him over the miles.  (We'll save that for another post....heh, heh)  Today he is several hundred miles away so before he left I hid a card in his luggage.  For fun I left a printable coupon  on his Facebook page.
I thought I'd share some of my favorite printable coupons.  Feel free to download and print.
EXCERPT ~
Grabbing a breath, Kandace crept toward the door. This time she expanded her awareness to the interior, checking for anyone else, before turning the knob.
The door cooperated as if she'd put a spell on it. Slipping inside, she closed the door so there was not the tiniest sound. She pivoted around and waved her hand, creating a soft illumination.
Paintings adorned all four walls of the private office. A mixture of modern, impressionism, and realism, they were all forgeries, to her utter astonishment.
That is, except for the painting Kandace planned to steal back. Of course, many collectors had forgeries done of their prize pieces, keeping the real art in secure underground vaults that were, more often than not, lavish showrooms.
Psi-detecting forgeries had become a magickal specialty of hers, ever since Kandace's sister, Meredith—also adopted by her parents—had opened up her own small art gallery, then been tricked by a man supposedly selling his original.
Curious, Kandace roved her gaze over the eclectic selection of paintings, unconcerned about surveillance measures. There would be none in this keep-all-deals-under-the-table office for the rich and famous.
While something pricked at her about the collection, something she didn't have time to figure out, Kandace moved toward the painting stolen from her friend. Valerie and her husband had found the early Frederic Remington painting at an estate sale.
Despite the layer of grime, Valerie had known. Since the age of twelve she'd had a love affair with the Western artist, and already owned every print available.
Kandace paused, studying the wall around the Remington for any hidden alarms. Discovering one, she disabled it with a point of her finger.
A slight hiss of sound alerted her. Inadvertently, she'd triggered another alarm and the mansion's security team would be headed her way.
Keeping her cool, Kandace aimed her finger directing the Remington from the wall, and onto the Georgian antique desk. Swiftly flowing her palm over the frame, she found the embedded RFID chip and GPS locator. Loosening the frame with more of her magick, she carefully removed the precious canvas.
Shutting her eyes, Kandace concentrated, then zapped the Remington to the trunk of her car. She followed it with her mind's eye, watching the painting settle within the climate-controlled container.
Rapidly moving toward the door, Kandace eliminated the illumination she'd manifested. Cracking open the door, she peeked out. An army of footsteps rushed up the main stairway. From the other end of the long corridor she heard the jogging run of another team.
"What's a witch girl to do?" she whispered, gently closing the door.
A whole lot of tricks so not up my sleeve. How easy peasy cool would it be to suspend them on the ceiling with a snap of my fingers?
Kandace battled her temptation to do just that. However, a blatant use of magick was never smart in a world ruled by science.
Plus, she'd already had a few astral run-ins with psychics working for the shadow government. They regularly searched for specimens like her to be rounded up or recruited.
Backing away, Kandace raised her arms, and focused on centering her force. Wiggling her nose like Samantha in Bewitched, simply for the fun it, she brought forth an invisibility cloak.
While it would only last for a few minutes, that should give her enough time to rejoin the charity event. Appearing to be innocent in the face of her magickal heist was crucial.
Hearing the tromping charge of security, Kandace retreated to wait beside the desk. The door flew inward and the lights blazed on.
Guns drawn, the guards entered like the professionals they were. Their gazes swept the room thoroughly, but fast. Splitting up into two-man teams, they began a systematic search.
The instant the doorway cleared, Kandace made a beeline for it. As she escaped, she wished she'd thought to take off her heels. Still, she'd worn her mid-thigh bouffant skirt since it didn't hinder her.
Hastily, she minced her way to the staircase, and quickly descended. She huffed breaths because the bodice of her fire-red dress was tight as a corset.
Even though she remained invisible, Kandace felt relieved she saw no one. She wasn't without mass. Someone could definitely feel her.
Oh crap, oops. There had been no one on the stairway when she'd just looked.
Now, two brawny men in matching dark suits pistoned their legs, trotting up the stairs. Thinking, yet acting on instinct, Kandace clambered astride the banister. Thank the Goddess, it was a straight slide to the bottom now.
She whooshed downward easily because of her expensive pantyhose. As she whizzed past the two super security guys, her skirt brushed the thigh of one. Hardly breaking stride, he glanced back.
"Felt one of your damn ghosts," he growled to his partner.
"Told you the place is haunted," his partner replied.
"Yeah, yeah. Casper isn't happy tonight."
"No one's happy tonight with that painting disappearing right beneath our noses."
"We'll get the bastard, or fucking bastards."
"Yeah, no cat burglar is that good."
I am that good. For I am the notorious cat witch burglar.
Squinching her eyes shut, Kandace prepared herself for a collision with the Roman-style column at the end of the banister.
Her butt hit with a big ole thwack!
"Ow." Kandace briefly rubbed her stinging derriere. Scrambling to the floor, she hurried toward the women's lounge.
~~~~~~

SEXCERPT ~

Kandace thought she heard the slide of clothing, and decided the other twin disrobed. In a lovely delirium of passion, she didn't move to find out for certain. Besides, Zol or Zin's lips tempted the small of her back, placing a beautiful-feeling kiss.

Kandace doubted any man had ever kissed her there. Certainly not like that. Not this feeling of I'm in sex paradise.

Sensually, he nuzzled her skin. The prowess of his mouth teased her, then pleased her with more long kisses. In absolute ecstasy, Kandace went limp.

She whimpered as his hands flowed down her arms. He palmed her hips beneath her skirt and his lips deserted her back. With clever fingers, he slowly eased her pantyhose downward and over her butt.

"Yes, naked," she murmured.

"Not yet, darling Kandy." His soft growl was a command.

The waistband of her pantyhose captured her knees. Smoothly stroking, he roamed his hands up and down the entire length of her thighs.

Goddess, they had the best, most sensually pleasurable hands in the universe. "What are you going to do to me, you bad hellhound?"

"Enjoying the shape of your bare ass."

His lips grazed one of her butt cheeks and languidly nibbled. When his incredible kisses claimed the curves of her ass, Kandace moaned, "Oh, yes."

Seductively, he nuzzled beneath the fullest flesh of her butt, then nipped her with his lips, his passion obvious. His mouth moved higher, tantalizing her with more kisses.

"I swear I'm a puddle of flame for you." Kandace had never felt anything like this red-hot insanity of need. Her pussy begged to be noticed -- it was so wet and wanton.

Raising her ass high, he seized her legs above her knees, and her bouffant skirt brushed her back. Kandace grabbed white satin, attempting to fist the bedspread, but it was too slippery.

A dark rumble of lust sounded close by. "Lick her. I want to watch our Kandy Apple blaze out of control."

"Oh lick, yes," she managed to say.

Was there any breath left inside her body?

"Red as sin and cherries, brother."

Kandace quivered inside. She felt her pussy folds swell in anticipation, an ultra sexy sensation. Unexpectedly, his tongue tip probed her slit. The gentle exploration sent a jolt of ecstasy through her mound.

"More," she whispered. "Please "

She hadn't finished speaking when he licked the length of her sex seam. The smooth finesse of his tongue made Kandace keen a long whimper. Desperately, she hoped for more.

Zin or Zol didn't disappoint.

He lapped her pussy slit in the same way, but with a steadiness that erotically pulsed her flesh. Her entire body melted, then pleasurably throbbed.

Near the edge of an orgasm, she dipped her back, thrusting her pussy as close as possible. His tongue struck her clit, nearly undoing her.

A fiery need enveloped her instead, and with each flick of his tongue, he stoked her higher. Suddenly igniting with rapture, Kandace screamed a moan.

Ecstatic sweeps of pleasure owned her, and only his hold on her kept her from collapsing onto the bed.

"Kandace." His rasp moved through her body like liquid smoke.

The moment her knees could support her, he slipped her pantyhose down her legs. As he tenderly smoothed them from her feet, sparkly tingles danced inside her.

"My turn."

Somewhat coherent, Kandace asked what she wanted to know. "Which one?"

"Zin," he hoarsely growled close to her ear. He gripped both of her butt cheeks, rubbing caresses. "It's Zin, my beautiful witch."

"Goddess, even your voice gives me a mini orgasm."

"May I say, Kandy Apple, the shape and softness of your derriere is an inspiration for my erectly standing manhood."

"Such a gentlemanly confession, hellhound."

Goddess, when had she ever known this dreamy sort of passion, especially with her ass stuck up in the air? As Zin stroked, she felt like she drowned in the dreaminess, yet somehow kept breathing. "What about your caninehood?"

"Volcanically engorged as we speak."

"Mmmm engorged. I think my womanhood is still engorged."

"Should I naughtily entice your engorgement?"

"Oh, do naughtily entice me."
His large thumbs slid over the inner flesh of her ass, halting near her juicy sex entrance. Tenderly prying her cheeks apart, he thrust his tongue just inside her pussy.

"Zin." Her breathy gasp of pleasure lasted longer than saying his name.

The pointed tip of his tongue twirled strongly. Then he licked the inner rim of her passage. Basking in the sweet, wicked wildness, Kandace clenched her eyelids.

"Oh, yes, yes, that feels so good."

Zin drilled his tongue inside her repeatedly, his tempo languid yet forceful. He made her crave his cock. Goddess save her, she wanted him lunging in and out of her for the longest time.

Although, Kandace couldn't quite believe he took her this way, given this was their first time together. Still, her body burned like a blissful furnace.

She opened her core to him, whispering, "What you do to me."

Her orgasm began as a clench deep inside her passage, interrupted when Zin withdrew his plunging tongue. Kandace couldn't voice the no screaming inside her.

She panted like a wild thing. Sweltering and needy, she searched for a bit of relief by slipping her arms forward over the cool satin.

"I want your breasts, Kandy Apple."

Zin's roughened voice smoldered her, made her fiercer with need.

He stroked beneath her bodice, covering her breasts. The possessive feel of his hands made the entire length of her clit twist, pain and pleasure. "Zin."

"What delicious apples you have, Kandace, especially the stems."

Inebriated by her blazing arousal, she mumbled, "You did that on purpose."

"All the better to passionately devour you, my darling."

His words moved through her, sexy and sinuous as a dragon. "Devour me with your fire, hellhound."

The restriction of being halfway dressed crazed Kandace suddenly, and she cried out, a strangled yell of frustration.

"Naked." She clawed at the bedspread.

'Bring Your Own Wolf' for Wicked Haunt-o-ween

Happy Hauntings, everyone. Join me on Monday, October 15 -- and all the authors participating in the Wicked Haunt-o-ween at KM Books.

Here's the beginning of my featured flash scene...

‘Bring Your Own Wolf’ Costume Party
By Savanna Kougar

With her head pounding from a nerve-wracking day at her rotten stupid job as a bank teller... with her stomach growling and pressed against her spine because she’d skipped lunch to license her junker of a car, then pick up her Little Red Riding Hood costume for tonight’s Halloween party... Sapphyra jogged toward the entrance of the small shop that sold stuffed animals, many of them realistic looking.

That is, before Doris closed up -- only minutes away.

“Oh, hell, no.” The words burst out of Sapphyra as she glimpsed Helen’s silver Porsche parked nearby.

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait... by Serena Shay

So an interesting thing happened to me as I worked on this week's blog...

My character jumped in and changed everything up.  Who knew Leo and Cami went to school together.  Who knew he was a geek turned alpha and who really knew he was a Dom!

A lot of my Talbot's Peak family is leaning heavily into the BDSM lifestyle...a total, but welcome surprise.

As an author, I would love to have the plotting ability down cold, however, the voices in my head...ie participants in my writing journey, don't want to let me.  Too boring, they say...not enough freedom, they whine.

I gotta tell ya, if this crew is allowed anymore freedom, I just might find myself locked away!  Pads on the very white walls.  Just make sure I have a computer at my disposal, or a marker...I can make it work.  ~wink~

~~~
It took everything Leo had to hold back the chuckle bubbling up inside him.  Cami Ann Wilk, the quietly sexy, shyly searching wolf who’d overlooked his geeky nature all through school, here in the office with Kennel cough.  Fate was being incredibly kind to him today.
“Well, what do we have here?  I see you’re a shapeshifter, canine breed wolf, with a nasty sounding cough.  How about we get you on the table and have a listen to those lungs.”  He squat; readjusting the kilt as he went, and scooped up the lovely wolf.  “Such soft fur, lots of protein in your diet?”
A sort of cough/snort erupted from her muzzle and drooly snot ran down her lips.  She looked away and whined.  The sound was pure embarrassment.  In her human form a blush would spread across her pale skin—a visual reminder of how close to the surface her blood flowed and the pleasure she’d find his brand of love.  Over the years he’d spent an inordinate amount of time watching her, hoping she would see him back.
He ran his hands over her head and down her back, both to sooth and steady the beautiful animal before reaching for his stethoscope.  “Okay, sweetheart, deep breath in…and out.  Once more…”
The nice thing about working with shifters was that they actually listened to what you told them while in their alternate form.  Well, some did.  There was this smarty pants squirrel who didn’t listen to anyone and a snake that was forever trying to peek under his kilt, but both were so amusing he didn’t mind playing along.
“Sounds to me like kennel cough.  Can I assume you were out on Jack and Jill’s hill last week at the monthly free-for-all?”  Once again she issued the cough/snort and lowered her eyes.
Yeah, she was there wandering—though not participating.  Hers had been a familiar expression, he’d seen it all through school; she wanted to join the group she was just too submissive to make the attempt.
“Cami Ann,” He said, tipping her head up so he could look into her crystalline blue eyes.  His use of her name shocked her into skittering and nearly falling from the exam table.  “Careful now.  Go ahead, shift and get dressed.  You and I have much to discuss.”
Leo walked to the door, looked back and smiled.  His years away had taught him more than veterinary science; he’d perfected his technique under many of the best Doms across the country—though none better then Talbot Peak’s very own dominating duo, Mistress Penelope and Master Dom.  All in preparation for his return to her…his perfect submissive.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!  Stay warm and dry, or cool and wet...whatever trips your trigger.  :D
Serialized Stories And All That
I got an idea to do a serialized story on my website blog. I've scheduled it to start today because October is my favorite month! I love the spooky decorations, the music, the costumes and even the food. Halloween is like the everything goes holiday, don't you think? Back to the story idea. I met this awesome, hot model named Luna Love and she's agreed to let me post a few pictures of her that kind of go along with my story. Fantasy Inker is the title of my lesbian erotica short and guess what? Luna is inked and sexy!
Look her up on Facebook- Luna Love. What a groovy name! She has so many hot pictures. So that's my idea. Five hundred words and a new picture, every Wednesday until the end of the month. I've recently gotten into reading series, which got me into writing series and hence I got this idea. Kind of a mini-series if you will. Tell me what you think about series? Long or short? Do pictures make it that much better or would you rather visualize in your own mind? Thanks for stopping by and giving up your reading thoughts.
Sweet 16 and Zombies
My son turns 16 in a couple days.  Funny, how I remember being 16.  My birthday wasn't the greatest but the year was a blast!  I spent the summer with my best friend in England.  We stayed with a man who had been my mom's penpal since 1942 and his wife.  He was a poet, she a teacher and there my BFF and I became budding writers.  It was that summer I wrote the base story that would launch the Soul Series 20 years later.
As a teen I loved reading and writing.  I am so glad I kept all my old journals.  If you know a teen, please encourage her/him to keep a journal and to read often.
One of my favorite erotic romance writers has a young adult book coming out and I'd like to take a moment to shamelessly promote it.
Coming September 25th, 2012 from Gena Showalter!  Alice in Zombieland.
She won't rest until she's sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.
Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that's all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.
Her father was right. The monsters are real.
To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn't careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies.
ShapeShifter Seductions ~ Fantasy Football Talbot's Peak Style
Louie glanced around the table. He studied each face and nodded as their eyes met his. He made his way around the group until he reached Gill. Gill shot him a cheesy grin and waved. Louie shook his head, rolled his eyes, and shuffled the cards in front of him. “You’re probably wondering why I called this meeting.”
Five heads bobbed along with Gill’s. So much for a talkative bunch. Bettina’s head body guard Biff, who decked anyone who actually called him that, pulled his cards to him. Louie had introduced him as Guido, who knew his sainted Italian Grandmother married a southern California surfer and insisted her grandson carryon her maiden name as his middle one, as a safety precaution. Next to him sat Hadley who snarled every time Guido looked his way. Lobos and bats couldn’t quell their animosity all the time. Good things the boys had agreed a friendly rivalry wouldn’t hurt their reputations.
Opposite Gill, sat Hadley’s second in command, Ranger. The fool wore a park ranger’s hat like it was a permanent part of his head. Louie kept dealing and counting. The fourth of their group grunted and messed with his cards. Porker knew when to keep his head down and his mouth shut. Mary’s mother had done a number on him recently with her demands about making an honest sheep out of Mary. Being a were pig wasn’t easy. Then there was the fifth. How Bettina had talked her way into this Louie still wasn’t sure. She played cutthroat poker. He hoped she remained calm and didn’t make blood bets.
Gill picked up his cards one by one. He gave a low whistle, winked at Louie, and turned his cards over. The squirrel gods were smiling on him tonight. “Explain the rules again Louie.”
Louie smiled back at Gill. “Thank you for asking. It’s football season, my friends.”
Grunts and nods followed. Louie carefully laid the undealt cards on the table. “We’ve got humans coming in to watch the games. They’re gonna bet on the outcomes. Gill and I are attending gambler’s anonymous meetings thanks to our local squirrel wrestling event a few months back.”
Three heads shot up as Louie finished his last remarks. Eyes narrowed as they gazed at Gill.
Bettina rapped on the table. Everyone turned to face her. “Hear Louie out. I am backing this.” She flashed her fangs and went back to examining her cards.
“Thank you Bettina.” Louie cleared his throat. “In your hands are football trading cards. The rest of the deck is other player’s cards like those you have. Gill, you came up with the basic idea for this. Please elaborate.”
Gill gulped. He grabbed his beer glass and downed a hefty portion of his acorn beer. He rubbed his lips together, inhaled, and sent a few quick prayers heavenward. “All right. We’re forming a fantasy football group.”
A few titters and snorts sounded. Gill shoved his chair back and rose. “Rattigan’s patrons want to mix in with the locals from the towns close by. They’re human for the most part. So what better way to get a conversation started and mixing happening in a natural way? Males and some females like football.”
Louie held up the deck. “I’ve given you each the number of cards equal to the starting line up for a team. This is your team. We’ll toss dice and see who goes next to draw to fill in their roster. There’ll be cards left over. As the season goes on, you can trade or bench players. Some of you may work out trades. Each week one of you will play a wild card match against Rattigan’s team.”
Murmurs grew in volume as the men looked at their players. Bettina glanced at her cards and leaned back grinning. Louie glanced around the table again. “Since Bettina is the only female present, she represents Rattigan’s. I’m playing with the rest of you for fun.”
“So where do the patrons come in,” Hadley asked.
“You have something common to discuss with them. You’ll watch the games and talk, maybe even cheer together. And. . . .” Louie shot Gill a harsh look.
Gill slumped back into his chair. “Yes, Louie. There is no hard-core betting. No cash, no credit cards, nothing that can be traced. That means gents and lady, only nuts, pretzels, popcorn, and buying a round for the bar is permissible tender.”
Gill let go a deep sigh. He wasn’t cut out to be anyone’s bend over boyfriend, except maybe Melinda’s while they watched the Friday night game.
Happy Weekend Gang!
Football season officially starts. Thus fall is in the air. Be safe as the weather changes and the last of summer fights to hang on before letting fall take over.
Hope you enjoyed this week's flash. Figured Talbot's Peak could use a new sport or two. Maybe next week I'll have the sand castle contest figured out to continue Jackson and Abebi's story.
Until then, share a few good books with your spice and loves,
Solara
Ten Guidelines for Co-writing
Two long-time Romance Writers Who Behave Badly got together last year, and from that frolic came a story, “Sophie’s Rogues,” which officially released this week. One of the big questions we get all the time is "What’s it like to co-write?" Well, we’ve got the answer to that, by way of Ten Guidelines for Co-writing:
1.       Get yourself an awesome and unflappable co-writer. Proceed to annoy, bother, and ultimately flap her. (Note: This isn’t a guideline I can really attest to as I don’t think Christa ever once flapped. The whole thing was like a staring contest. That I lost. – viv)
2.       Come up with a good versioning process. Nothing’s more frustrating than adding your bit to the master doc ... and then having it get overwritten or accidentally deleted or lost. Dropbox is great for sharing master docs, but you’ll probably want versions even there.
3.       Don’t expect everything to go smoothly, but don’t be surprised if it actually does.
4.       Agree on the basics beforehand: POV, setting, characterizations, theme, end-state...
5.       ...and then proceed to break as many “rules” as possible, knowing that your partner is going to save you from looking like a dork.
6.       Share all your ideas, even if you think they sound lame or unfeasible. Co-writing by its nature offers a great fast-track through brainstorming. Can’t hurt to take advantage of that.
7.       Nail down your process. Some co-writers pick a character each and then exchange POV-centered scenes. We used a more linear and organic process: one of us would write until she was stuck, then the other would pick up and unstick the whole thing.
8.       Write to your strengths. The truly awesome thing about co-writing is that you have a whole other set of strengths – your co-writer’s. The best co-written stories showcase the best of both writers.
9.       Allow yourself to have fun. Solitary writing can begin to feel like work after a while, but when you add another writer into the mix, it’s suddenly a social event, a grand experiment. A party. So go ahead and indulge a bit.
10.   Write with someone you trust and respect.
Christa, this has been the awesomest part of my writing adventure so far. And yes, I did just use a non-word. You may red-ink me now. –viv
Do Ebooks Need Book Covers?
I, for one, get so excited when I get a new book cover. It's like Christmas. The other day I read where someone wondered why ebooks needed covers and suggested they do away with them altogether. (gasp, the horror of it all)
What would you think if you saw this image on a book cover? Old house, spooky, ghost story maybe? Contemporary about a couple fixing up a house and falling in love? The title has a lot to do with what our minds assume as well, but without the image, it would prove to be more than difficult. They went on to say that the covers for print books are to pull readers in or 'hook' them. Well I believe they do the same thing for ebooks. I can't imagine any type of book without a cover. If you find a print book without a cover it means it's a 'dead' book that has been supposedly destroyed and no one made money from that copy, not the author or the publisher. Now I have an image of all of these 'dead' ebooks lurking in my head- not pretty! Authors, cover artists and publishers spend many hours dreaming and implementing book covers. I've seen covers make or break book sales. I received a cover once that didn't have anything to do with my story. Luckily my publisher agreed and had them change it for me. When I see a coming soon book cover I anticipate what the cover will look like. I know when I find a print cover I like, it usually gets me to buy the book. Now, looking from the other side of the coin. I do know a few epublishers who agree with this theory. Torquere Press does not create covers for all of it's sips or short stories. They have a standard cover that is used over and over again, no people or objects that related to that specific story, but something that identifies it as a short with that publisher. I know another publisher, Logical-Lust, that uses a real picture of the author as the cover for shorts. All they have to do is add the title and author's name, very economical. I actually kind of like that idea as an author and a reader. I have one publisher who creates book covers, but then doesn't include them on the actual book that you buy. It was sort of a disappointment to me when I opened the first book, so I can't imagine not having one at all. Would you rather buy a book, possibly a bit cheaper, with no cover at all? (And I'm addressing print and ebooks alike here) Does the next wave of the future exist with no book covers?
